the american dream is not attainable to a lot of us. and i really want to know, is the american dream dead for me? >> how in the world do you answer that? it feels -- it feels -- this is the same wall street garbage that has been thrown out there as to why we can't create jobs. let me give you this for an answer. how about $30 billion to community banks around the country loosen up the credit lines, get lending going and let small businesses thrive? well, of course, the republicans have been against that, too. so you see, the american dream isn't dead but it was on life support for a while with, because, you see, the republicans regain power, they are ready to pull the plug to on damn near everything president obama has been able to accomplish. i'm doing everything in my power to stop them and that's why with i will be there october 2nd. hundreds of thousands of americans will flood the mall on october 2nd and join the fight to keep the american dream alive. and it will be more than a feeling. there's facts and figures to go along with everything that's gonna be said from this broadcaster.

started before 8:00 this morning and according to what police are telling us, they brought a person, this hostage, from somewhere else to the bank. what does all this tell you? >> well, chris, first of all, my background is as an fbi agent and haostage negotiator and i have been involved in bank hostage situations in the past. when they bring someone to the bank it suggests probably one of two things. number one, they had kidnapped someone, the robbers, whoever they are, had kidnapped someone and were trying to force him or her to get money out of the bank's atm. we call those rapid robberies or quick robberies sometimes. the second is that it may be someone who either works for the bank or who is known at the bank and they used that person to get into the bank at 8:00, realized the bank doesn't open until 9:00. but if they get in at 8:00, that would really give the robbers, unfortunately, inside the bank before customers would start to come. as you know, chris, banks also have television, tv sets and, of course, msnbc is aware of that and i think will be very guarded in anything we

towards us, we expect to see the rain by 2:00, 3:00 in the afternoon getting heavier as the day wears on. w we expect earl parallel to the outer banks. just about 2:00, 3:00 tomorrow morning and as it continues up the coast to the jersey shoreline and then new england, we expect it might possibly make landfall along to nantucket where it juts out. it doesn't have to make landfall to cause major problems. it is moving forward at 18 miles per hour. that will increase the possibility of storm surge where you get most of the damage through the storm surge, but we look for heavy rains, high winds and, again, hurricane force winds extend out 90 miles from the center of the storm. so you don't have to make landfall to get major impact from this hurricane. we'll continue to monitor it and there will be an update coming up from the national hurricane center within the hour. more details for you. >> thanks very much, al. let's get over to meteorologist bill karins. i can tell you fraught talking to al earlier, those winds have picked up where he is. what are things looking like right now? >> i am

that it took us a decade to get into the problem that we're in right now. on cell phone use be behind the wheel be on the way? we'll take a look at all that stuff this morning and developing right now, nbc news confirmed that nine u.s. troops are dead after a predawn helicopter crash in afghanistan. jong yang is live in kabul. >> that's right, thomas. the taliban quickly made phone calls to news organizations, including nbc news, here in kabul to claim responsibility. to say that they shot this helicopter down. the military says not so. they say there was no reports of, no reports of any enemy fire before the crash, before the helicopter went down. the taliban often exaggerates its role and claims responsibility for things that actually turn out to be accidents and, actually, most helicopter crashes here in afghanistan have turned out to be accidents. maintenance issues, also the dust that fills the air here just grinding up the helicopters and their rotors. this was in zabul province. a province in southeastern afghanistan. an area where the taliban is in control of a lot of the territory. it's next to kandahar province and a name people are more familiar.
